At Retrograde Furniture, we stand behind the quality and craftsmanship of our handcrafted timber furniture. This page outlines our warranty coverage, return policy, and refund process.
10-Year Structural Warranty
Every piece of Retrograde furniture comes with our comprehensive 10-year structural warranty - one of the longest in the Australian furniture industry.
What's Covered:
- Structural integrity: Frame construction, joints, and load-bearing components
- Construction issues: Loose joints, hardware failure, or assembly defects
- Finish defects: Premature finish failure or delamination (first 12 months)
What's Not Covered:
- Normal wear and tear from daily use
- Damage from misuse, accidents, or negligence
- Surface scratches, dents, or marks from normal use
- Changes in timber colour due to natural aging or sun exposure
- Damage from improper cleaning or maintenance
- Modifications made by anyone other than Retrograde Furniture
Making a Warranty Claim:
- Contact us within 30 days of discovering the issue
- Provide photos and description of the problem
- Include proof of purchase and delivery date
- Our assessment: We'll evaluate the claim within 5 business days
- Resolution: Repair, replacement, or refund as appropriate

Change of Mind Returns
We understand that purchasing furniture online can be challenging. If you change your mind about your purchase, we offer returns subject to the following conditions:
Return Timeframe:
- Made-to-order and Custom furniture: No returns accepted (as these pieces are custom-made specifically for you)
- In-stock furniture: Store credit offered within 14 days from delivery date
Return Conditions:
- Item must be in original, unused condition
- Furniture must not show any signs of assembly or use
- Return shipping costs are your responsibility
- Original delivery charges are non-refundable
Return Process:
- Contact us within 14 days of delivery to request return authorisation
- Return shipping: Arrange and pay for professional furniture transport back to our workshop
- Inspection: We'll inspect the item within 3 business days of receipt
- Refund: If approved, a gift card with store credit will be issued via email.
Restocking Fee:
A 25% restocking fee applies to all change-of-mind returns to cover handling, inspection, and remarketing costs.
Damaged or Faulty Items
If your furniture arrives damaged or with manufacturing faults, we'll make it right immediately.
Immediate Action Required:
- Inspect upon delivery: Check all items before accepting delivery
- Document issues: Take photos of any damage or defects
- Contact us within 48 hours: Report issues promptly for fastest resolution
Our Response:
- Repair: Minor issues may be resolved with local repair service
- Full refund: If replacement isn't suitable, complete refund including delivery costs
- No cost to you: We cover all costs for damaged or faulty items
Care & Maintenance
Proper care extends the life of your timber furniture and maintains warranty coverage:
Daily Care:
- Dust regularly with soft, lint-free cloth
- Clean spills immediately with damp cloth
- Use coasters and placemats to protect surfaces
- Avoid placing in direct sunlight or near heat sources

Consumer Rights
Your warranty and return rights are in addition to consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law for major failures and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
For major failures with the quality, safety or performance that would not have occurred if we had taken reasonable care, you may choose a refund or replacement, and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
